Woman Arrested in Burka Bank Robbery Attempt: FBI Source

FBI agents in San Diego say they’ve arrested the woman who recently tried to rob a bank wearing a burka.

Elysia Maria Roiz, 30, is in custody, accused of trying to rob a Wells Fargo Bank on August 1 while wearing a maroon-colored burka.

Surveillance images released by officials showed the suspect at the teller station of the bank on Highland Avenue. Watch video.

Officials said the would-be bank robber handed the teller a note with her demands, but the teller alerted a co-worker and then hid.

The suspect waited a few seconds, then left without any cash.

U.S. Marshals worked with Baja State Police to arrest Roiz in Tijuana on Friday, Sept. 27.

She has since been transferred to the custody of National City police where she was interviewed and then booked into Las Colinas Detention Facility in Santee.

She’s scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
