St. Johnsville sporting goods store announces plans to refuse gun sales to Muslims

A St. Johnsville sporting goods store announced, via a Facebook post, its intention to refuse gun sales to all Muslims.

JJ’s Sporting Goods sent out a Facebook status update stating: “JJ’s has made a corporate decision. After lengthy meetings with the board of directors, and considering the recent attack of the recruiting station and the killing of 5 service men by a radical muslim, and since I cannot tell a radical muslim from the 6 non radical Muslims left in the world, we at JJ’s have decided not to sell any guns to Muslims.”

The post was made on July 22 at 11 a.m. The post has been liked by five of its 749 followers with one positive comment.

When speaking with WKTV reporter Joleen Ferris, the owner, John Swartz, acknowledged that it may not always be possible to tell who is Muslim, and he knows that it may not even be legal. But he believes he has to have the policy for the sake of his conscience.

The store is located at 14 Bridge Street in St. Johnsville. It specializes in guns and ammunition, but they also carry knives, camping gear and hiking gear.
