Shocked to find food was halal

I was recently shocked during a visit to a local KFC to learn that the chicken I had just eaten had been slaughtered using the halal method of live slaughter.

We were only made aware of this by overhearing a conversation from another diner.

When inquiring about this at the counter, we were informed that this was now policy at KFC and there was apparently a sign in the window with a symbol that infers this.

We were in a party of 15 and no-one had seen the sign, nor informed at point of purchase.

I appreciate that the halal method of slaughter is legal, but it is related to the Islamic faith and to have this method forced on non-Islamic people is something that I feel we should all be aware of.

Of course, if I don’t like it I can choose not to eat there and I won’t do again.

I would like to express my appreciation of the Rt. Hon Keith Vaz and Jon Ashworth for speaking against the proposed ban on face coverings.

Their continued opposition to the ban will have a positive impact on the lives of women both in Leicester and nationwide.

Their support of human rights to religious expression, and their voicing the needs of a marginalised section of the female community, is appreciated.

We were delighted to hear Leicestershire singer Molly Smitten-Downes has been selected to fly the Eurovision flag for Britain.

What an outstanding achievement and we wish Molly all the best – let’s hope her song Children Of The Universe will break our 17-year drought since the last victory for Great Britain.

We are sure Molly will do Leicestershire proud.
