Settlement reached in hotel case

A hotel employee who says she was fired when she refused to take off her head scarf will get a $100,000 as part of a settlement.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a complaint on behalf of Safia Abdullah who worked at MCM Elegante in Albuquerque as a housekeeper.

Abdullah claims she was ordered to remove her head scarf or would lose her job.

The hotel owners have agreed to pay the woman $100,000 in back pay and compensatory damages but denies the allegations.

They say they settled the case to avoid expensive litigation.
