Police solve mystery of Burlington City statue

The mystery of the burqa-wearing, assault rifle-toting statue hiding in the bushes at a city gas station has come to a close as police say they have found the person responsible for creating the situation.

The puzzle began Monday, when a city resident called police to report what appeared to be a statue of a woman wearing a burqa and carrying a rifle popping out of the bushes next to the Gulf gas station at the corner of Route 130 and High Street.

Police were dispatched to the station, where the staff said they hadn’t noticed the statue, didn’t put it there themselves and didn’t know how it got there or why.

Police took the statue, started an investigation and put out a call on social media for anyone with information to come forward.

On Monday evening, a 37-year-old Langhorne, Pa. man showed up at police headquarters and said that he left the statue there and that he had no connection to the station and didn’t mean to negatively affect their business, according to the latest statement posted to the police department’s Facebook page about the incident.

According to a report from the Burlington County Times, the man told police that he had found the statue himself and left it in the bushes for a friend to pick up later.

Police stated that the man would not be charged with any crime.
