Police forge town mosque links

Police visited one of Keighley’s biggest mosques as part of efforts to increase links with residents in central areas of the town.

Officers spoke to people at the Markazi Jamia Mosque in Emily Street, opposite the Asda supermarket.

Members of Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team encouraged residents to raise any issues of concern in their neighbourhood.

The police took along their mobile exhibition van, showed people their off-road bike, and fitted anti-tamper screws to car number plates.

The visit was part of a venture to build better relations with communities across Keighley.

Keighley’s Muslim Association said it would like to see more of the initiative.

Senior vice president Abid Hussain thanked Acting Inspector Craig Marshall, of the Keighley police team, for the venture.

He said: “The Muslim community does want to work with West Yorkshire Police and it would be great if this kind of initiative could take place again.”

Police will be giving anti-theft advice at Morrisons in Keighley this Saturday from 10am, and at B&Q, Alston Retail Park, on Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
