Medical experts have been testifying in the trial of a Bristol dad accused of having his daughter’s genitalia cut.
The 29-year-old dad, who lives in an inner city area, faces a charge of assaulting / ill-treating / neglecting a child or young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.
The case relates to an allegation that a Type 4 female genital mutilation (FGM) procedure was carried out on his daughter, due to an injury found on her when she was aged six.
A court order is in place to ensure the child’s anonymity, so the dad also cannot be named for legal reasons.
