Islamic Studies Institute Established in Belgium

An Islamic Studies Institute has been set up in Belgium’s French-speaking region.

Jean-Claude Marcourt, Higher Education Minister in the region, said the institute is a non-governmental one, rtbf website reported.

He said it is aimed at preventing radical ideologies from entering the country and pave the way for interactions between Belgium’s Muslims and non-Muslims.

Marcourt noted that Muslim preachers and prayers leaders of Belgium will study in this center.

He added that prayer leaders and preachers should be from among those who have lived in Belgian society and are familiar with the culture of the people.

The official added that the institute will also conduct research studies on Islam and those who would like to know more about Islam can use its library.
