Redouane Ahrouch, a co-founder of the Islam Party, says his dismissal from the Brussels public transport company, Stib, was a political reprisal.
“It’s sad to see politicians intervening in the professional and private lives of a citizen,” he said.
Ahrouch, a bus driver, explained that he was surprised at the announcement of his dismissal, which he heard via the media. He had recently caused a controversy when he called for a separation of the sexes on public transport so as to prevent men from harassing women. Stib said it had decided to dismiss him because his proposal would clash too much with the values the transport company espoused.
