On Monday, the state is expected to wrap up its case against Faleh Almaleki.
He’s the Iraqi father accused of killing his 20-year-old daughter Noor back in 2009 because he thought she was becoming too westernized.
Among those who testified against Almaleki was the woman who was with his daughter when the incident happened. She was hit by Almaleki’s vehicle as well, but survived.
With an Arabic translator, Amal Khalif told a jury she was walking across a Peoria parking lot with Noor when she saw a Jeep headed straight toward them.
In the hospital for two months with a broken hip and back, she lived, Noor did not.
A Maricopa County medical examiner says Noor had blunt force trauma to the brain.
“After she had her cardiac arrest, the brain swelled to such a degree that it spread downward on the brain stem, which ultimately caused her to die,” said Dr. Kevin Horn.
Not wanting to look at graphic and disturbing autopsy photos of his own daughter, Faleh Almaleki looked down the entire time the medical examiner took the stand.
February 7 is the last day he will have to listen to detectives, doctors and witnesses. On February 10, it’s his turn and the defense will present their case. A case they say is all an accident - that Almaleki never meant to hit his daughter.
He was just trying to spit on her.
