Confusion as Sainsbury’s tells customers its Easter eggs are ‘halal certified’ – then apologises for ‘mistake’

Excerpt:

Sainsbury’s customers were left baffled by a tweet from the supermarket claiming both their Easter eggs and hens’ eggs were “halal certified”.

A customer care agent made the blunder in a Twitter thread earlier this week under a link to the supermarket’s ‘Easter Eggs’ section on their website.

The exchange took place after a customer asked if the supermarket sold “non-halal” eggs.

The agent responded to the query saying: “Every Easter or hens’ egg we sell is halal certified so technically every single one of our eggs that we sell is halal.”

But the revelation of “halal certified eggs” came as a surprise to user Humzah Abid who responded: “Didn’t even know there was such thing as non-halal eggs.”
