Burka sisters hide faces to follow & nobble juror at brother’s murder trial

Pair attempt to pervert justice as they board man’s train & demand attention

Two sisters hid their faces with niqabs as they followed a juror at their brother’s murder trial and tried to nobble him.

Law graduate Masooma Khan, 33, and single mum Sakina, 34, got on his train home then confronted him in a street wearing the veils.

The juror, who was hearing evidence of a gangland drug shooting by their brother Naseer, 24, could only see their eyes as the pair demanded he listen to them, a judge heard yesterday.

One sister told the juror: “We want to talk about the trial and Naseer.”

The man ignored them and walked off in Wakefield, West Yorks.

He reported what had happened when he returned to Leeds crown court next day.

The trial judge discharged him from the jury — and the sisters, from London, were arrested when they next attended the trial.

Yesterday they were each jailed for 18 months after admitting attempting to pervert justice.

Their brother is serving a minimum of 34 years after he was found guilty of murder.

Masooma’s barrister told Leeds crown court both women were of previously impeccable character. Sakina’s said: “It was without doubt a foolish act of stupidity to follow her sister.”

Judge Tom Bayliss QC told the pair: “This was a determined attempt to influence a juror in a murder trial.

“You thought because of his ethnicity you might find a sympathetic ear.”

Det Insp Seth Robinson said outside court: “Behaviour such as theirs can strike at the very heart of the justice system.”
