A St. Cloud City Council member's plan to temporarily stop refugees from resettling in St. Cloud is facing fierce opposition.
Jeff Johnson, who represents St. Cloud's Fourth Ward, submitted a draft resolution this week calling for a moratorium on refugee resettlement in St. Cloud. The resolution was emailed to City Council members on Tuesday, according to St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis.
Two groups — one local and one statewide — are coming out hard against it, as is at least one state legislator, a refugee from Thailand.
UniteCloud is asking residents to attend Monday's City Council meeting to support refugees and all St. Cloud residents, according to UniteCloud organizer Natalie Ringsmuth.
