Lena Masri, staff attorney for the Council on American Islamic Relations of Michigan, was honored by a chapter of the Federal Bar Association for her pro bono work.

Masri was honored on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association State of the Court Luncheon for "providing pro bono legal services on behalf of poor and indigent clients in the Eastern District of Michigan."

In recent months, Masri has filed federal lawsuits that challenge discriminatory policies, requiring Muslim inmates to sacrifice an adequate diet when they participate in the Ramadan fast and denying Muslim inmates a halal diet.
