The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relation, known as CAIR, is angry about speakers coming to an event at the State Capitol Friday.
CAIR director Adam Soltani tells us the Counter-terrorism Caucus of the Oklahoma Legislature is hosting a seminar with CLEET-related speakers, of which CAIR opposes.
CLEET stands for Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training.
“We are asking CLEET to drop the credits that go for this training that feature anti-Muslim speakers. It’s concerning because the speakers are Frank Gaffey and Jerry Boykin and Claire Lopez. All of them are affiliated or are directly anti-Muslim and anti-Muslim in their speech, in the things they do and their actions,” CAIR director Adam Soltani said.
The director of CLEET, Steve Emmons, said, “This is not a CLEET seminar and this is not CLEET training.”
We are told the local organizer is Oklahoma State Representative (R) John Bennet. He issued a statement that included this.
“In the interest of the safety of Oklahomans, we feel it is crucial to go ahead with the program on November 1. With nearly a century of combined experience as practitioners of US national security policy… We will ignore character assassination in the form of astro-turfed pressure and agitation from outside the state.”
Soltani said they are concerned and feel others should be as well.
“Things that are very alarming to us; we’re afraid will spill over into the training.”
