Amazon axes ‘sexy burka’ costume amid complaints it is racist

Amazon has axed a “sexy burka” party dress advertised on its website after complaints it was racist.

The online retail giant has removed the black cropped dress which came with a plunging neckline and was modelled by a white woman amid outrage from customers.

Described as a “gorgeous sexy outfit made from a lovely soft stretch material”, the frock was advertised for sale at £18.99 plus free delivery.

But customers were quick to condemn the garment as “racist” before it was pulled from the website.

An “Arab Sheikh” costume, available to order for up to £16.99, also sparked complaints.

One user, who posted a one-star rating, wrote: “You’re all disgusting racists. My culture is not your costume.”

While another said: “A person’s culture is NOT a fancy dress costume.”

Amazon UK said the “sexy burka” garment had now been removed.

A spokesman said: “All Marketplace sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who don’t will be subject to action including potential removal of their account.

“The product in question is no longer available.”
