A dad has been cleared of allegedly allowing his daughter to have female genital mutilation.
The 29-year-old dad, who lives in an inner city area of Bristol, faced a charge of assaulting/ill-treating/neglecting a child or young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.
The case related to an allegation that a Type 4 female genital mutilation (FGM) procedure was carried out on his daughter, due to an injury found on her when she was aged six.
A court order is in place to ensure the child's anonymity, so the dad cannot be named for legal reasons.
After a week-long trial Judge Julian Lambert directed the jury to acquit, after finding a lack of evidence, meaning there was no case to answer.
