Turkish President Recep Tayyp Erdoğan is casting doubt on Donald Trump‘s proposed plan to ban Muslim from entering the U.S.
Erdoğan told MSNBC through a translator that the GOP presidential candidate’s plan was not “remotely possible.”
“Politics is a marathon and it’s a long process. Many things can be said throughout the rallies before elections and things will turn out to be very different post-elections,” he said.
He also declined to back a candidate, saying, “The best thing for me is to see the will of the people being served in the United States.”
Erdoğan’s government has arrested thousands of individuals following a crackdown in Turkey after a coup attempt earlier this summer.
Other world leaders have downplayed Trump’s proposed ban, including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi earlier this week.
Trump in July said that wanted to suspend immigration from “any nation that has been compromised by terrorism” until additional vetting mechanisms are in place.
