Muslims from across the state are expected to participate in the fourth annual “Muslim Day at the Capitol” set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, March 5 at the State Capitol.
Leaders with the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the event’s sponsor, said it is designed to bring Muslims to the Capitol to directly meet with their state legislators to discuss issues impacting Oklahoma’s Muslim community.
In each of the last three years, “Muslim Day at the Capitol” participants have been met with anti-Islam protesters.
Also each year, members of the interfaith community have created what they call a “corridor of support” to escort Muslims past anti-Islam protesters into the State Capitol to participate in “Muslim Day at the Capitol.”
