A rallying call has been made by Fiona Mactaggart as she urges the government to take more action on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
The Slough MP has welcomed plans to grant anonymity to victims of FGM but has called for better support and refuges for girls at risk of the abuse.
The MP said: “Refuges are struggling financially, the Government has promised an injection of cash but they need to promise long term help. Victims struggle to come forward because of fear or loyalty to family, they need a support network afterwards.”
She has also called on MPs to use resources in their constituencies to help women at the forefront of protecting their daughters and to help girls protect each other.
