The Hague city council will not exercise any supervision of the prayer services of the radical Imam Fawaz Jneid. It has rejected a call from the local Party for Freedom (PVV).
According to the PVV, intervention is necessary because the meetings are said to attract criminals. Both the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) and the police disagree with this, the city council reports. They say there is no danger to public order and safety. Additionally, the meetings come under the constitutional protection of freedom of religion.
The Imam achieved national notoriety for his prayer for Theo van Gogh. “O God, give Van Gogh a sickness that cannot be cured by all the inhabitants of the earth.” Mohammed Bouyeri, the man who murdered Van Gogh a few weeks later, was present at this service.
