A valley mother is in jail, accused of tying up her teenage daughter and beating her -- and it was all over a boy.
The woman told police her daughter is not allowed to have a boyfriend and did this as a form of discipline.
This family is Iraqi, and according to police when Yusra Farhan found out her daughter was talking to a boy, she wouldn’t have it.
50-year-old Farhan is accused of tying up her own daughter and beating her inside their northwest Phoenix home. Police say the mom tied a rope around her teen’s waist and then tied that rope to a bed to prevent the girl from escaping.
In court, the judge forbade her from having any contact with her daughter.
“Please let me talk to her. I didn’t do anything,” she pleaded to the judge [translated].
According to court paperwork, Farhan hit the teen so violently with her hands and a shoe that the girl ended up at St. Joseph’s hospital in Phoenix.
Police went to the hospital Wednesday to arrest Farhan, but there was a brief struggle in the emergency room. She refused to be handcuffed and was eventually carried out by two officers.
Farhan told police she hit her daughter because she was speaking to a man and her Iraqi culture states “a female is not allowed to be having contact with males.”
Through a translator, the mom asked to be reunited with her daughter.
“I think my daughter can’t live without me…"
Farhan’s bond was set at $1,800. She’s looking at aggravated assault, unlawful imprisonment, and resisting arrest.
