An official at a major pro-Israel organization told Ben Smith’s blog that “Concerns [about Freeman] have been made loud and clear.” Smith notes Freeman’s Saudi funding, but omits from his synopsis of the controversy that Freeman admits taking $1 million from Saudi Arabia specifically for what Freeman himself called “public relations.” Smith reports that “I’ve been able to confirm, [Freeman] has been offered and has accepted the influential, low-profile job of chairman of the National Intelligence Council...[but] the appointment -- which, as Anthony Zinni learned, can’t be seen as final until it’s public.”
