Clifford Smith Appointed Director of the Washington Project

PHILADELPHIA – January 7, 2016 – The Middle East Forum is pleased to announce the appointment of Clifford Smith as the director of its Washington Project.

Mr. Smith will lead the Forum’s efforts to educate policy makers and opinion leaders in Washington, D.C. on best ways to further American interests. His issues include reforming UNRWA and countering the influence of domestic Islamist groups.

Mr. Smith has served in a number of capacities on Capitol Hill in both the House and Senate. He has most recently served as communication director for Congressman Gary Palmer (Republican of Alabama). His writings have appeared in the Daily Caller and American Spectator.

He holds a bachelors degree in communications and political science from Washington State University, a masters degree in public policy from Pepperdine University, and a law degree from Catholic University of America.

“Clifford Smith brings solid knowledge of Washington and of the Middle East to the Forum,” said Forum president Daniel Pipes. “We look to him to build on our existing issues in the U.S. capital and then expand on them.”

The Middle East Forum, a Philadelphia-based think tank, is dedicated to defining American interests in the Middle East and protecting America from Islamist threats. It achieves its goals through intellectual, activist, and philanthropic efforts.
