The Islamic Society of Greater Youngstown opened it’s doors to women from various religions on Tuesday.
The organization wants to promote greater understanding between people of different religions.
The guest speaker was the Director of the Center of Islamic Studies at Youngstown State University, Dr. Mustansir Mir. He said Islam gets a lot of bad press due to beheadings and deplorable actions of a few.
“Islam is quite different and Muslims themselves are sorry and embarrassed, too, I should say, at what is taking place in the name of Islam,” said Mir.
Dr. Mir added that the actions are not an essential part of the truths of Islam.
After the tea, guests were given a tour of the Mosque.
