University of Michigan professor Sherman Jackson has been named one of the top 500 most influential Muslims in the world by an international Islamic non-governmental, independent institute headquartered in Amman, Jordan.
The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre publishes the annual series to provide “a window into the movers and shakers of the Muslim world,” according to its website.
Jackson is an Arthur F Thurnau Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at U-M and a writer on the African- American Muslim community. Jackson is the co-founder of the American Learning Institute for Muslims and is featured on the Washington Post-Newsweek blog “On Faith.” He is a former chairman of the Fiqh Council of North America, according to the publication.
