America’s school textbooks are mainly produced by three publishers: McGraw-Hill, Pearson Education, and Houghton-Mifflin.
Education in America used to be about helping our children gain knowledge about life, about the world in which we live, and about history. Today, it has become too much about indoctrinating children about a political (politically correct) point of view. The goal is to disconnect young Americans with their heritage of freedom and the Christian worldview in order to make it easier to get them to accept the Leftist vision of a glorious socialist utopia.
Fox News recently did an in-depth report on the kind of revisionist bilge you’ll find in many of today’s public school textbooks, and you’ll find that video report in its entirety below.
Did you know that there are two Thanksgivings in America? That is what school children are being taught. The only problem is that one of those thanksgivings is from another country: Mexico.
The “bias” police have also determined that you can’t show in textbooks things like women cooking (women don’t cook, you know), mice, people with large hairdos, etc. You can’t use words like waiter or waitress (waitron has been made up to help us avoid the frightening recognition that we have two sexes of human beings on our planet). I’m reminded of George Carlin’s discussion of this idiocy several years ago in which he talked not about manhole covers but personhole covers.
Our history books go out of their way to point out every mistake and wrong–real or perceived–every committed by the United States…while those of other civilizations mostly get a pass.
Then of course there is the pro-homosexual indoctrination designed to get children to accept this aberrant, unhealthy and immoral sexual behavior as normal and legitimate. Homosexual activists believe teaching grade-school children about homosexual penguins will be immensely helpful in this regard.
The roots of terrorism also gets a pass. Instead of identifying the fact that almost all terrorism is Islamic, any mention of terrorism in the textbooks glosses over its origin and influence. Islam also gets deferential treatment in that textbooks say without equivocation things like the Quran IS the revelation of God to Mohammed…but Christians simply believe this or believe that. Islam is taught as historical fact, whereas Judaism and Christianity (the moral and philosophical foundation of our nation) are taught merely as a set of beliefs.
There are also private Islamic schools here in the United States that are fomenting hatred and violence against us. One of them is in Alexandria, Virginia just outside Washington D.C.: the Islamic Saudi Academy. After reports that their textbooks were breeding hatred and violence, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom urged the State Department to investigate these textbooks. In 2006 the Saudi government promised to revise their textbooks. In 2008 these textbooks were supposedly reviewed for inflammatory material, but Fox News hired an Arab linguist to review them and found passages like
The aforementioned infidel nations ought to be tortured…
Allah–may he be exalted–vowed to prepare a flaming fire that will roast those who disbelieved and burn their skin until they lose senses and feelings…
When one party is unable to give consent, such a person with mental illness, a boy and the underage girl, a father is permitted to give them into marriage…
The textbook industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, making money hand over fist while indoctrinating our youth.
This may give you a clue as to why my wife and I homeschool. We care too much about our children to allow them anywhere near the public indoctrination centers.
