Swiss Muslim Scholar Sacked [on Tariq Ramadan]

The controversial Swiss Muslim scholar Tariq Ramadan has been fired from his job as an advisor to the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The city of Rotterdam said Tariq Ramadan’s decision to host a weekly television show financed by the Iranian government, which the city calls a ‘repressive regime’, was unacceptable and not in harmony with his role.

Ramadan has been an adviser to the city of Rotterdam on easing tensions between the Dutch and Muslims. He’s also a visiting professor of theology at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Radaman says he will go to court to fight his sacking.

Last month, a US appeals court reversed a lower court’s ruling barring Ramadan from entering the United States. The US government had revoked his visa several times, saying contributions were given in his name to the Swiss-based charity Association de Secours Paletinien, which is banned in the United States.
