Student Senate held another business meeting on Nov. 1. The meeting included several Senate Reports, such as the possibility of a new Middle Eastern minor, and the idea about reconstructing senate.
According to Drew Heiderscheidt (full disclosure: Drew Heiderscheidt is also the Opinion Editor for The Mirror), students will be able to take courses from a wide variety of different colleges on campus that will count towards a Middle Eastern minor. The idea for the minor began last year, but is now a possible program for students.
UNC isn’t adding new classes to help with the minor due to funding. However, if enough people sign up for the new Middle Eastern program, they’ll be able to add more classes because of the high interest from students, Student Body President Kevion Ellis said.

In other news, the Board of Trustees had another meeting on Nov. 1, where they finalized the list of leadership qualities they are looking for in the new president.
Students who have taken a class in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences can also nominate a faculty member for the “Diversity in the Classroom” Award. The nomination applications are due Tuesday, Nov. 1 by midnight. The faculty winner will receive a $500 award. Applications can be found on the UNCO College of Humanities & Social Sciences website.
Student Senate will hold another business meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
