Shady Crony Syndrome: An affliction often suffered by politicians. Symptoms include hanging out and doing business with people you wouldn’t want to introduce to your mother and then prevaricating when asked direct questions about your associations.
An AP story on Wednesday carried some shocking information to those of you who get your news from the “mainstream” media. It lists “notable figures who have drawn scorn and scrutiny” who have crossed paths with our President-elect, including Tony “Convicted of Fraud” Rezko; Rev. Jeremiah “G** d*** America” Wright; William “Blow Up the Capitol” Ayers; Emil “Nepotism” Jones; Rashid “I Heart the PLO” Khalidi; and Fr. Michael “We’re Gonna Snuff Gun Shop Owners” Pfleger.
Let’s not forget the flavor of the week: Gov. Rod “How Much?” Blagojevich, who has been accused of – among other things – trying to “sell” Barack Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder.
Whoever said politics isn’t any fun hasn’t been paying attention to Chicago, also known as “The Windy City,” “Hog Butcher for the World,” “The City that Works” and, more recently, “The Biggest Political Cess Pit West of Washington D.C.”
The story itself doesn’t offer any analysis or depth to the information – it’s simply a laundry list of shady characters whom Obama has known and worked with for the last couple of decades. But the AP has seen fit to impart information that somehow didn’t make the grade during the two-year long presidential run. I guess they were too busy writing stories about how much he and Michelle adore each other and what a great basketball player he is. In a similar vein, august news personalities Tom Brokaw and Charlie Rose – four days before the election – admitted they knew little about Obama: his views on foreign policy, what books he’s read or who his heroes are. Who his heroes are? Now that’s funny!
This is what passes for reporting today. I have another name for it: C-Y-A. Serious journalists want to be able to say, “But yes, we did talk about that. See, it’s right here!” when Americans wake up to the fact that they’ve been sold a bill of goods.
Quick, shut the barn door! Oops, too late, the horse is already out and in the next county.
But never fear, the media won’t be handing over The One to Pontius Pilate (hey, I’m just using an accepted metaphor) anytime soon. No, it’ll take something really terrible, like his inability to quit smoking, to do that. Oh, wait… Anyhoo, already we’re being told that not only has The One been able to rise above the muck in Chicago – walking on sewage instead of water – but we’re also hearing that Blagojevich is a crazed sociopath who’s ready for his straitjacket fitting and his close-up with Cecil B. DeMille. So Barry can be forgiven for being bamboozled by a guy who resembles the character Jack Torrance in The Shining after one night too many at the hotel bar.
In another C-Y-A moment by the mainstream media, we also learn that Tony Rezko – one of Obama’s fundraisers, his neighbor and pal in a real estate deal, and Blagojevich’s top fundraiser – is going to sing for his supper. That’s right, he’s going to talk to prosecutors with the hopes of reducing his sentence. Will Obama be implicated in anything? Only his hairdresser knows for sure! But you can bet the press will give us all the most important details…just not right away.
Alan Caruba, in an article that can be found on FamilySecurityMatters.org today, has this to say about the mainstream media:
The game is up for the mainstream press. The Internet constantly reveals how they distort the news and how they print news that is too often unsubstantiated boldfaced lies such as telling us that global warming is real or that the U.S. can be “energy independent,” or that “biofuels” made from food sources can replace gasoline, or that Barack Obama is a “centrist.”
Remember folks, you heard it here first. And do you remember that popular 1970s song by Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams, “Too Much, Too Little, Too Late”?
Too much, too little, too late to lie again with you
Too much, too little, too late to try again with you
We’re in the middle of ending something that we knew
It’s over…
Yeah, me too.
