Four Iranians have been tried on charges of seeking to topple the Islamic establishment with the support of the US State Department and the CIA, the country announced Tuesday.
Judiciary spokesman, Ali Reza Jamshidi, said the trial was over and the verdict and sentencing would take place in a few days.
Jamshidi told reporters that the four planned to “recruit others” to “send out for training against Iran.”
He didn’t elaborate or identify the four. It’s not clear when their trial started or how long it lasted.
In 2007, Iran released four Iranian-Americans detained on similar charges during their separate visits to Iran. The four - including academic Haleh Esfandiari, director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars - were never tried.
