The Bridge Initiative at Georgetown University announced today that Dr. Farid Hafez has joined the Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding as a Senior Research Fellow for The Bridge Initiative where he will research and write about Islamophobia in Europe and its impact on our modern world.
“We are very delighted that Farid Hafez, Department of Sociology and Political Science at the University of Salzburg, has joined our team at The Bridge Initiative here at Georgetown University,” said Professor John Esposito, Director of The Bridge Initiative and Founding Director for the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown.” As a leading scholar in Islamophobia Studies, Hafez brings over a decade of prolific research and experience dealing with Islamophobia and Muslim issues in the world.”
Hafez is a political scientist, who recently was Fulbright Visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. A prolific author, he has more than 50 books and articles, is founding editor of the German-English Islamophobia Studies Yearbook (since 2010) and co-editor of the annual European Islamophobia Report (since 2015), covering more than 25 European countries. Hafez is a regular commentator for National Public Radio (NPR) and he regularly appears on prominent media outlets.
A native Austrian, Hafez was awarded the prestigious 2010 Bruno Kreisky-Award for the Political Book of the Year for his anthology on Islamophobia in Austria.
