Footing the Bill

I can’t understand why the people who immigrate to Canada expect us to teach their children in their mother tongue, such as Arabic, Japanese, Chinese and German. Why must we taxpayers pay for children to learn their families’ language when it isn’t English or French? When I went to school, we were taught in English only; parents wishing their children to learn another language paid their own way. If it’s so important that children learn their parents’ mother tongue, then the parents should cover the cost. It appears we Canadians are too trusting and polite; therefore, we are taken advantage of.

I am insulted that the CBE even thinks it’s OK to offer Arabic classes and that goes for all other foreign languages. Cut all language classes except English and French and the CBE could find enough money to fund the buses to get children to a basic school program for which parents now must pay more than $600 to bus children.
