Wittenberg University students studying in Japan posted messages on Facebook to let faculty know they were safe minutes after the recent earthquake.
While the disaster abruptly ended some overseas studies for the semester, Dayton-area universities said the earthquake will not stop their study abroad programs in Japan.
However, college officials are examining their overseas programs and stepping up safety measures. And the response stems not just from the Japanese disaster, but also from unrest in countries such as Egypt, Libya and Syria.
Thousands of Dayton-area students travel overseas annually for study abroad programs.
