Collège Rosemont Defends Suspending Contract With Arabic school

Collège Rosemont is defending its decision to temporarily suspend its contract with a school that teaches Arabic and the Qur’an after links to radical Islamist materials were found on its website.

The Journal de Montreal reported last week that the links on the website of the El Forkane language school promoted statements rejecting the values of secular education and reported this morning that some of those links involve the Jihad.

Director general of the CEGEP Stéphane Godbout said he doesn’t think they overreacted.

“This is very concerning. So I think it’s responsible and careful to take a pause to take the time to conduct an investigation and to clarify all that happened,” Godbout told CJAD 800 News.

“That kind of comment for sure is against our mission and our rules and it’s for that reason we took an immediate action.”

Godbout said they’ll go over the material and meet with the school’s owners before making a final decision about whether to continue renting classroom space to them.

The El Forkane school did not return calls from CJAD800 News. The owners have said they do not subscribe to such radical beliefs and that the links wernot properly vetted and were mistakenly posted. They have since been removed.
