A new book, Dispatches From the Campus War Against Israel and Jews, by Dr. Richard L. Cravatts, is a collection of 36 essays exploring the troubling phenomenon of Israel-hatred and covert anti-Semitism on college campuses. Promoted by biased Middle East studies departments, funded by Saudi dollars, and led by professors with a barely-hidden intolerance for even the continued existence of the Jewish state, the new anti-Semitism—parading as anti-Zionism—poses dangerous threats to Israel and those who recognize the viability of this Western-style democracy in the Middle East.
Tracing the birth of this new strain of virulent anti-Israelism to academia’s obsession with “Palestinianism,” Cravatts, who has been identified “as a leading voice against the resurgence of anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism on American college and university campuses,” also reveals how those who seek social justice for the Palestinians have perpetrated a vicious campaign to libel and delegitimize the Jewish state—including the malignant Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign.
What are the manifestations of this virulent campus hatred? A Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under the Law anti-Semitism report revealed that “more than half of 1,157 self-identified Jewish students at 55 campuses nationwide in a survey reported having experienced or witnessed anti-Semitism on their campuses . . ,” and, in fact, anti-Zionist activity is highly correlated with anti-Semitic targeting of Jewish students.
Anti-Semitic vandalism and activism has been regularly documented on U.S. and Canadian campuses like University of Chicago, Harvard, Brown, Berkeley, UCLA, San Francisco State University, York University, and Yale.
“The manifestations of these on-campus hatreds have been obvious and ugly,” writes Dr. Cravatts: “ripped Israeli flags drizzled with blood; Stars of David juxtaposed with swastikas; charges of apartheid, racism, and genocide leveled against Israelis; accusations of dual loyalties, with American Jews accused of undermining U.S. interests with the covert purpose of assisting Israel; physical threats against Jewish students; and blood libels that transform Israelis into murderous, subhuman monsters who almost gleefully shed Arab blood in their insatiable quest for land—land that, their academic critics say, they neither deserve nor for which they have any legitimate claim.”
In Dispatches From the Campus War Against Israel and Jews, Dr. Cravatts exposes the threat posed by the new anti-Semitism in detail, and this book reveals the tactics used to delegitimize Israel and the dangerous, toxic agenda of the campus radicals and pseudo-academics who lead this abhorrent campaign.
Richard L. Cravatts, Ph.D., the author of Genocidal Liberalism: The University’s Jihad Against Israel Jews, is President Emeritus of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East, a grassroots community of nearly 40,000 academics on more than 3200 campuses worldwide.
Dr. Cravatts has published over 400 articles, op-ed pieces, columns, and chapters in books on anti-Semitism, anti-Israelism, higher education and campus free speech, terrorism, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, politics, and social policy. In addition to speaking engagements, he is also a frequent guest on radio programs on the topic of anti-Israel sentiment in higher education.
In addition to serving on the SPME board, Dr. Cravatts is a board member of the Journal for the Study of Antisemitism, the AMCHA Initiative, and the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law.
