Bethany’s Crescent Islamic Montessori School to Move to Aloha

The Crescent Islamic Montessori School currently located in Bethany Village will soon relocate to a permanent location at 16830 S.W. Blanton St.

Ahmed Ebeid, a member of the school’s board, owns the property on Blanton, where he rents out a single family house. After the pending land use application is approved by Washington County, the house will be torn down and construction will begin on the new school.

At nearly 2,000 square feet, it will house two classrooms for up to 60 children ages 3-9, Ebeid said.

Most of the construction will take place in August so the school can open in September.

The non-profit preschool, which currently serves about 30 students, has operated for about 10 years. According to the school’s website, it is the only Islamic Montessori in the greater Portland metropolitan area.

The school ascribes to the principles and practices of Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian doctor and educator. The Montessori education method emphasizes student interest and experience. It is highly structured but tailored to each child.

The Crescent Islamic Montessori School offers this learning experience in an Islamic atmosphere. The school’s primary objective is “to provide a solid foundation in Islamic studies and reinforce Islamic values in a nurturing environment,” the website reads.
