Arabs and Public Opinion [on Amaney Jamal]

As an Arab-American Princeton alumna, I welcomed the cover story regarding Professor Amaney Jamal of the Near Eastern studies department in the Dec. 9 issue.

There is a high unmet need within American society to start to debunk the negative stereotypes and slurs that have been associated with Islam and with Arabs. The story on Professor Jamal provides a humanistic perspective that rarely is voiced. I applaud both the PAW editors and the Princeton administration itself for yet another example of honoring the tenets of pluralism and diversity that have helped to establish this country.
