An Egyptian teacher will spend the upcoming school year teaching Arabic to students at Safford Magnet School in Tucson.
Mohamed El-Dwiny was awarded a fellowship from the U.S. State Department to participate in the 2011 Teachers of Critical Languages Program.
He is one of 25 teachers selected from China and Egypt for the program.
The program is designed to increase the study of important world languages in U.S. schools.
The teachers also will have an opportunity to learn more about U.S. teaching methodologies, culture and society.
