A wider debate

Rashid Khalidi accuses Campus Watch of trying to limit debate on Israel (“We have our eye on you... so watch out”, January 28). Our criticism is that to listen to Khalidi you would think there are no other issues besides Israel.

To be fair, the closed guild of which he is a part has lately discovered Iraq, and to a far lesser extent Islamic radicalism. The guild can only focus on the West, in the form of the now virtually hyphenated US and Israel, as destroyer of worlds. Such negativity focuses attention conveniently on the guild’s own place as the wise arbiter of a better tomorrow. That this is the quintessence of the “Orientalism” they loathe so viscerally is an irony that escapes Khalidi and friends.
