The Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District will offer Arabic language classes next fall.
It will initially be taught at Central Junior High in Euless. The district already offers Chinese and Hindi, among other languages.
Arabic instruction came under scrutiny recently in the Mansfield Independent School District after parents said they did not think so much time should be spent on one culture.
Mansfield ISD planned to start the class at Cross Timbers Intermediate School. Grant money would have been used to start a new program teaching almost every single subject from an Arabic perspective. The program is now on hold while district officials get more input from patents.
HEB ISD does not anticipate it will face such protest with starting its program.
