A Kinsley Gaffe on the Left [on Juan Cole]

Professor Juan Cole, in a rant against the influence of the Israel Lobby on American foreign policy, suggests that progressives set up an alternative to the nefarious influence peddlers who promote the interests of the Zionist regime at the expense of the American people. The name he suggests for this new organization? The America First Public Affairs Committee.

Apparently the University of Michigan professor and Middle East scholar was unaware that an organization with a similar name had once attempted to steer U.S. foreign policy toward a more even-handed, or neutral if you will, approach during another war. Cole has since thought better of the name and rebranded his initiative the For American Public Affairs Committee -- but the message is the same. As Charles Lindbergh said so eloquently nearly 70 years ago on behalf of the original America First Committee, "[the] greatest danger to this country lies in their large ownership and influence in our motion pictures, our press, our radio, and our government.”
