Chamber of Deputies, Italy’s Parliament, in Rome. On January 27, the First Committee of the Chamber of Deputies began examining Bill AC2562, introduced by Fratelli d’Italia, the party led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The legislation seeks to combat religious separatism by targeting foreign funding for mosques, increasing penalties for forced marriages, banning the full veil in public places, prohibiting “virginity certificates” except for health reasons, and granting authorities power to close mosques that preach Islamist supremacy or hatred.
