False allegations of attacking professors who criticize Israel

Campus Watch Responds:

In the course of this long interview, American Conservative reporter Kelley Beaucar Vlahos mischaracterizes the mission of Campus Watch. In answering a question about the Giuliani campaign, she says that Middle East Forum director Daniel Pipes:

[H]as put out his Campus Watch, in terms of going after professors that he deems are not pro-Israel enough.

In fact, Campus Watch does not determine the extent of a professor’s support for Israel and “go after” them if we decide they are not “pro-Israel enough.” Rather, we critique academics for their work on Middle East studies as a whole, and our criteria for critiquing them include the accuracy and historicity of their work, the degree of politicization, and their treatment of students.
