A New IRGC Proxy in Europe

Beginning this month, pro-'resistance axis’ social media channels have circulated multiple statements by a group calling itself ‘Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya’ and claiming multiple attacks against purported Jewish and American targets in Europe. Leftist and anti-Zionist commentators dismiss these acts as ‘false flag’ operations. In this talk, Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi will discuss why the ‘false flag’ claims don’t match the evidence thus far, and whether the attacks fit in with prior patterns of attacks in Europe linked to Iran.

Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi is a Milstein Writing Fellow at the Middle East Forum and the director of the Middle East Forum’s Syria office. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Oxford University and his PhD from Swansea University, focusing on historical narratives in Islamic State propaganda. His work primarily focuses on Iraq, Syria, jihadist groups, and medieval Iberian history. He has published academic books with Routledge and Manchester University Press and has been widely cited in media outlets like the Wall Street Journal, AFP and Le Monde.
