The Middle East Forum (MEF) seeks a full-time Coordinator of the Islamism in Politics Project.
Today, American Islamist organizations are actively fielding candidates, organizing extensive lobbying initiatives in the Capitol, state houses and city councils all across the country, establishing donor clubs and PACs, drafting and influence legislation, hosting official electoral efforts (from candidate debates to running polling places), and providing activism and campaign support for allied progressivist organizations.
The Middle East Forum works to establish Islamist political goals, understand the extent of their influence, and challenge their legislative goals.
Job Description
The Islamism in Politics (IIP) Coordinator will be tasked to:
- Research Islamist efforts in local politics across the United States;
- Organize to counter these efforts;
- Educate the public, the media, and politicians on the threat posed by Islamist involvement in politics.
IIP Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Research and build a database of Islamist activity in local politics in the United States;
- Produce regular written analysis of such Islamist activity;
- Recruit and train groups of local activists in priority cities and states;
- Coordinate activism against local Islamist groups in state legislatures;
- Build partnerships with like-minded Muslim and non-Muslim organizations;
- Design and advance legislation that addresses local Islamist activity and mitigates its influence in local politics;
- Through written articles and media appearances, highlight the dangers of Islamism in politics in both national and local media;
Candidate qualifications:
- Knowledge and interest of Islamism in the West.
- Agreement with the outlook of the Middle East Forum.
- Ability to present arguments in writing and in person.
- Accomplishments in public writing and speaking.
- Ability to take initiative, meet deadlines, show attention to detail, and work simultaneously on multiple projects.
Location: The IIP coordinator can work from anywhere in the United States
Employment status: Full-time
Compensation: Non-profit competitive, including a travel allowance for project-related expenses.
