Former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke has endorsed Minessota congressman and frontrunner Keith Ellison for the Democratic National Committee chair.
On Sunday, the infamous anti-Semite and white nationalist David Duke went to Twitter to express his support for life long Democratic Party member Keith Ellison in the election to become the DNC chair.
He wrote: “Keith Ellison, Sally Boynton Brown or Jehmu Greene would all be excellent choices – I really like Keith though... I mean, at least he knows.”
Duke’s endorsement came at the time Ellison is being attacked over his previous affiliations and positions towards the Jewish people and Israel.
The Minnesota congressman has been accused of defending anti-Semites and advocating radical black politics. During his time in law school, he wrote multiple student newspaper articles in which he advocated for the creation of a black “homeland” in the Southeastern United States.
He’s also known for being was affiliated with the anti-Semitic group the Nation of Islam and with its leader, Louis Farrakhan, who once called Jewish people “bloodsuckers”. Ellison described Farrakhan as “a role model for black youth” who was “not an anti-Semite” and “a sincere, tireless, and uncompromising advocate of the black community and other oppressed people around the world.”
In 1995, the now-Minnesota congressman organized a rally at the University of Minnesota featuring Farrakhan’s national adviser, Khalid Abdul Muhammad, who once shocked the country at a different appearance by saying:
You see, everybody always talk about Hitler exterminating 6 million Jews. ... But don’t nobody ever asked what did they do to Hitler? What did they do to them folks? They went in there, in Germany, the way they do everywhere they go, and they supplanted, they usurped, they turned around, and a German, in his own country, would almost have to go to a Jew to get money. They had undermined the very fabric of the society.
At the rally organized by Ellison, Muhammad is reported saying: “if words were swords, the chests of Jews, gays and whites would be pierced.”
Last year, David Duke also endorsed Donald Trump, sparking calls for Trump to disavow his endorsement. After initially failing to do so, now-President Trump eventually came out opposing the former KKK leader.
“David Duke is a bad person, who I disavowed on numerous occasions over the years,” he said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
