Ludlow man arrested after allegedly calling person of Middle Eastern descent ‘a terrorist’

Jose Ortiz, 52, of Ludlow was arrested after he allegedly called a person of Middle East descent who was out walking with his daughters “a terrorist,” according to police.

Ortiz was arrested on Bluebird Circle and charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, obstruction of justice, interfering with a person’s civil rights and resisting arrest.

Police Sgt. Daniel Valadas said Ortiz called the person, who is of Turkish descent, a terrorist several times.

When police were called, he barricaded himself in his girlfriend’s house, police said. The girlfriend cooperated with police and let police into the house and they subdued the man.

Ortiz was arrested by Sgt. David Belanger, Patrolman David Irwin and Patrolman Brandon Vigneault.

The arrest took place July 7 at 7:49 p.m.
