Police have raided a mosque in a southern Bulgarian city and detained a Muslim religious leader suspected of spreading propaganda for the Islamic State group.
Police detained Ahmed Mussa Ahmed, a Roma imam, in the town of Pazardzhik. Mussa Ahmed has previously been charged with “preaching radical Islam.”
The prosecutor’s office said Tuesday that it has launched a joint operation with the interior ministry and the agency for national security “as part of a pretrial investigation into terrorism and incitement to war.”
Prosecutors did not say how many arrests were made but said that some 40 places in four other cities with Muslim communities had been searched.
