A Winnipeg high school has chosen not to have alcohol served at their graduation dinner so a popular Muslim student and her family can attend.
The class of 2008 from Nelson McIntrye Collegiate broke into applause and cheers when the decision was announced Thursday.
Maria Annom, a practising Muslim and the Class of 2008's popular valedictorian, will be able attend the grad dinner for the small Norwood high school in Winnipeg. As will her parents, whose observation of their faith prohibits attendance at places where alcohol is present.
